Back To You 05:01
BACK TO YOU Words & Music by: Piet Louter I’ve always looked for the winding roads. They just took me to everywhere. To all those places, where I abode, To do those jobs, I did really care. So I went out of my trodden ways, Just to try my other parts. And all my passions of former days must be got out of my heart. It was a hard coming to, Pretending not to see, That I’ll need you to turn to once again. And deep at heart, I’ve trusted you To stand and wait for me. Till it’s time I turned off and went back to you. I got accustomed and I got well-known To all those things, I had placed so high. And all those fellows changed from heroes To common people as the years went by. Illusions lost and experience gained I got aware of my silly thoughts But just by thinking that you haven’t changed I will probably make another fault. It was a hard coming to, Pretending not to see, That I’ll need you to turn to once again. And deep at heart, I’ve trusted you To stand and wait for me. Till it’s time I turned off and went back to you.

UNDER THE EYE OF HEAVEN Words & Music by: Piet Louter A coarse and sunburnt face Gives his job away, Says everything, what’s in his mind, Honest and undisguised. He enjoys the open air, Looking free from care, Cause he is not expected to be Neatly mannered and wise. Working under the eye of heaven, And everyone may see, That he is just that fellow, he wants to be. Working under the eye of heaven, Naked and unashamed. I never thought that life could be so plain. His strong and horny hands, Makes him feel a man, Makes him proud and worthwhile, In the way he have to be. Working under the eye of heaven, And everyone may see, That he is just that fellow, he wants to be. Working under the eye of heaven, Naked and unashamed. I never thought that life could be so plain. That man, who’s black and stout, You can make him out, Saying things just frankly, With his heart on his sleeve. Working under the eye of heaven, And everyone may see, That he is just that fellow, he wants to be. Working under the eye of heaven, Naked and unashamed. I never thought that life could be so plain.

ON THE GO, AGAIN Words & Music by: Piet Louter I could always stay far from the gutter. And nothing ever made me go astray. Did any work, like it ought to be done And saved the lots of money, that I made. Cause blood is thicker than water. I just felt like having one more try. Got rid of my job as soon as possible And presently I was really flying high. On the go, again. On the go, again I can finally pay attention to the music, that is running through my head. On the go, again On the go, again And there’s nothing that could keep me from once more taking up the thread. In former days, I was going with the dreamers, Who thought that it should get them anywhere. But that’s not I’m after at this late resumption I know better, having pretty much grey hair. I don’t need to do it for the money. And nor I’m in want of getting fame. It’s just for pleasure, for my own good feelings, To whatever stage, I won’t make a claim. On the go, again. On the go, again I can finally pay attention to the music, that is running through my head. On the go, again On the go, again And there’s nothing that could keep me from once more taking up the thread. If my fingers would fail in playing guitar. And my singing would be getting out of tune There will always be that voice in my head And I always will be able to croon… On the go, again. On the go, again I can always make something of the music that is running through my head.

From Now On 04:05
FROM NOW ON Words & Music by: Piet Louter Nothing will hold much longer than I let it go. And can’t go hurting me too far. I really don’t like having to let somebody know, Something that may cause an angry heart. Now the time is right to release a needy hand And finally care about myself. I’m really finding out that I can no longer stand, Having my own dreams been put down on a shelf. No more managing someone’s cryings for the moon. No more dancing to someone else’s tune. From now on, I’ll only do the songs, I really find good enough to play. From now on, I’ll go on to just following my mind and put my heart away. I’ve just been drawn into the vortex of a fool. There’s going vigour down a drain. It just has dawned on me, this is a whirlpool. And I must get myself on dry land again. No more managing someone’s cryings for the moon. No more dancing to someone else’s tune. From now on, I’ll only do the songs, I really find good enough to play. From now on, I’ll go on to just following my mind and put my heart away.

Benjamin 04:51
BENJAMIN Words & Music by: Piet Louter Long before you came in, with wondering eyes, They have already started and became unified guys. All of them have earned their standing. And everybody’s all right. That you have to reach for, Benjamin. So you must get used to their manners and their fun. They have already made the rules, how things ought to be done. And it’s all in their drilling game, That a new man gets a different name. They just keep calling you, Benjamin. They all have been going through this hard time. So they gladly avenge it and put you down. And they haughtily show you, who’s the last in line, Till another poor man comes around. So you swallowed resignedly and took it so far. But it’s time to lay down your fear and to show, who you are. It was just in a magazine, what this name really means; You’re the son of happiness, Benjamin. They all have been going through this hard time. So they gladly avenge it and put you down. And they haughtily show you, who’s the last in line, Till another poor man comes around.

Bound 04:32
BOUND Words & Music by: Piet Louter She’s looking at her husband, she knows him so well, After being together for more than fifty years. They had a great marriage, a lot of stories to tell. And when she recalls it, her eyes are filled with tears. They married from love, were born for each other. Bound to share all the goods and bads. But he had to cry off, just when she needs him at most. And she’s wondering whatever is going on in his mind. He doesn’t look different, his nature’s still the same, Which she holds in affection, that will never change. But he has lost all his memories; doesn’t even know her by name. And all that trusted faces; to him, they seem to be strange. And that they married from love, and were born for each other. Bound to share all the goods and bads. He had to cry off, and now he needs her at most. And she’s wondering how much longer, she can hold on this. She’s bearing from love, the cross of the both of them. Bound to share all the goods and bads. So she may not cry off, when she catches herself thinking And wondering if, it had better come to an end.

Broken Life 03:56
BROKEN LIFE Words & Music by: Piet Louter There was no need for sending funeral cards, To share my grief with everyone. When I lost a friend, being near my heart; They would have thought it overdone. Cause they couldn’t imagine, what she meant to me. And I might be guessed to be soft. I had never dwelled on it, how it would be, When I once would have to see my baby off. How I’ve been crying for this broken life, When I had to let her pass away. How did it touch me, when I closed her eyes. And made me crying on for days. Last time I really saw her getting low, After being faithful for many years. And it would bring about a shock to me, knowing, That her unavoidable end was near. And I was placed in a dilemma, that I can’t tell; Had to choose between life and death. I got guilt feelings, when I caught myself In thinking of getting another cat. How I’ve been crying for this broken life, When I had to let her pass away. How did it touch me, when I closed her eyes. And made me crying on for days. Where ever did all those tears derive? Whatever did she bring about, That I’ve been crying for her broken life, That I was entirely put out. Ooh…….. How I’ve been crying for this broken life.

Green 05:09
GREEN Words & Music by: Piet Louter I remember the old days, when I was still green. And so was the world all around. Now I see in its true colours and the difference between, What it should be and what I found. Green is the world, that was given to me. Beautiful, gentle and clean. But if you want to get on and go far in the end, You’d be better off without being green. So I did go and see, what’s going on in the world. Just doing the things, most people do. And I joined in their races, for all I was worth. But I wasn’t so long in seeing through, Green is the world, that was taken from me. So empty, it had never been. For if you want to get on and go far in the end, You should better look down on green. Then I got bad feelings and I take it to heart, Green is the child, having been disowned. And I ought to try to get it back in my arms. Just like a good father, I should have grown. Green is the world, that was given to me. Innocent, peaceful and clean. And if you want to be honest and fair to yourself, You’d better have much feeling. You’d better have much feeling for green.

Fallen Leaf 05:45
FALLEN LEAF Words & Music by: Piet Louter I’ll never get used to some events; When a strong leaf has been torn away, By a violent wind, dropped from the clouds. In the height of summer on a splendid day. I’ll never be rid of that dreary sight. See it lying, flatly on the ground. Quite stripped down of all its pride. On a barren plain with no other leaves around. What else can I say, than nature must be wrong. This is not the way, it should be turning out. And I can’t conceive, I must put up with this fallen leaf. All at once, I view its shiny colour. On this place, it’s having something sweet. It’s hard to bear, I see it only now. Is that what one must die for, here on the street. What else can I say, than nature must be wrong. This is not the way, it should be turning out. And I can’t conceive, I must put up with this fallen leaf.

THE PRESENT TIME Words & Music by: Piet Louter Looking back the old days, Your present moments roll away, Wasted in your grieves and vain regrets. Yesterday’s been burned and gone. And only good for learning from. If it’s not to leave out and forget. The present time is all you have. And when it’s passed, there’s nothing left, But only mem’ries in your mind. But at that time you are to give Your mind to just that day and live To see the lovely things Of the very day, your life is turning on. Worrying ‘bout the future And everything that could occur, The present time is lost upon you. Tomorrow is a blank edition Of a paper, that’s at hand in visions, Just to understand the way you would. The present time is all you have. And when it’s passed, there’s nothing left, But only mem’ries in your mind. But at that time you are to give Your mind to just that day and live To see the lovely things Of the very day, your life is turning on.

THE ONE I HAVE BECOME Words & Music by: Piet Louter I’ve come at a cross-roads, must think on my life. Did it take me to the aims, I had in view? Did it give me the happiness, at which I wanted to arrive, Which I was running after, my whole life through? Can I look back on a well-spent lifetime? And tell about everything I have done? And carry my head high in future? And be proud of the one I have become? To answer these questions, that I’m asking myself, I must retrace all the paths, I left behind. But my footprints are fading and it may be just as well. There’s no sense in keeping everything in mind. And in looking back on a well-spent lifetime. And in telling ‘bout everything I have done. And in carrying the past on my shoulders, That has made of me the one I have become. The good things and the bad things, they don’t matter anymore, And so are feelings of contentment or regrets. I rather look at the future, what it’s having in store. What great experiences will certainly lie ahead. May I look ahead to a well-spent lifetime? May I live and see great years to come? May I carry on with all those good feelings, About being the one I have become?

WRITTEN IN THE STARS Words & Music by: Piet Louter When you’re old and looking back on life, You may ask yourself, why did you strive, For everything that came to nothing at all And just were to fall out the other way round. By that time you won’t care about that. And you will laugh at all the goods and bads. But evenmore I think, you’ll wonder why, It took all your lifetime to find: It’s written in the stars, If you may go far, If you are born to be known As a famous hero, Making history. It’s written in the stars, What kind of man you are. At all you try to arrange, You’ll see, you cannot change What’s written in the stars. But if you should have known it all before, I think, you’d wish that you were never born. You’d miss that feeling of being satisfied With all you did and tried to make the best of it. So you won’t be sorry for those wasted years. They’ll have been more than worth your sweat and tears. It’s like a thrilling book, you’re reading to the end. It makes you understand and find: It’s written in the stars, If you may go far, If you are born to be known As a famous hero, Making history. It’s written in the stars, What kind of man you are. At all you try to arrange, You’ll see, you cannot change What’s written in the stars.

When I Die 06:33
WHEN I DIE Words & Music by: Piet Louter I don’t go in for delusion, When my life comes to an end. Just sticking to the evolution, I must accept and understand; My soul will pass into nothingness. My body will be rendered to the earth. All my reality will cease to be. That’s when I die. You won’t put up with this story; There must be more in the beyond. A state of being filled with glory, And everyone is glad and fond. So you’ll be taken up in paradise. Your body isn’t needed anymore. It’s this conviction that has made you say; “That’s when I die”. So you look at me in compassion, And say, you wanna safe my soul. But I won’t lose myself in abstractions, To not lose sight of what’s my goal; Just live my life in happiness. No matter what’s in fact the final cause. Till everything is done and finished. That’s when I die. That’s when I die. That’s when I die

POUR OLD SOUL Words & Music by: Piet Louter Who knows that neighbouring old man? There’s just little known about him. He’s only found to look so weird And always dressed the same. He’s really guessed to be lonely, Discarded and forgotten, Being very hard to meet; I don’t even know his name. When he wants to see one, he comes to tea with his landlady. It’s his regular distraction in the afternoon. Grumblin’ ‘bout people, who he does refuse To speak to or to know, For teasin’ them all, cause they made him lose And pass his days alone. Pour old soul! He may be a nature lover, Painting landscapes but not for people, Cause he hides his easel quickly, When a snooper’s passing by. He chose for life of a hermit, As a picture without colours. Never had a real good home, Neither children nor a wife. When he needs some love, he has quite enough at his landlady; Her kind of sympathy is the only love, that he could find. Talking ‘bout people, who he does refuse To speak to or to know, To punish the world, that made him lose And will let him die so lone. Pour old soul! Pour old soul! Pour old soul!

THE FINAL VIEW Words & Music by: Piet Louter Now the times are wholly different. It has been really flown. That old man’s surely passed away, As long as years ago. How dared I cast reflections On the closeness, he lived on? What did I know about him, At the time I wrote that song? I’m going on for that age, I took that man to be. Is there any difference Between him and me? More and more I come to realize, His view was not that wrong. But that I couldn’t know yet, At the time I wrote that song.

FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND Words & Music by: Piet Louter If you walk the land, I once lived in, And go across the places, where I’ve been, Look about yourself and you could chance to find Something of a trace, I left behind. If you feel like turning up the past, And come across a piece from me at last; Than it will turn out, that it did survive. And it wasn’t for nothing, that I lived my life. I did really play my part, And I laid myself out far to grace this land. For what roll I wasn’t good? There was nothing, that I couldn’t take in hand. So there still must be something. It could be anything. Though it’s only some footprints in the sand. If the dead could reason, They would all be pleased to live on in the things, that they made. Those will call to remembrance, they would realize; Just when there’s nothing left, then they’re really dead. So do care about the things, that you may find, For keeping up, that I will come to mind, In this far age, which you live in; In deference of your own origin. I did really play my part, And I laid myself out far to grace this land. For what job I wasn’t fit? There was nothing, that I didn’t take in hand. So there still must be something. It could be anything. Though it’s only some footprints in the sand. Though it’s only my footprints in the sand.
